Angefangen hat alles nicht bei der Kamera, sondern bei der Musik: drei Jahre klassische Gitarre — und seitdem spiele ich weiter, für mich und für gute Bekannte. It didn't start with the camera, it started with music: three years of classical guitar — and I'm still playing, for myself and for good friends.

Die Fotografie bewunderte ich lange von außen — bis mich ein Freund, der selbst Eventfotograf ist, fragte, ob ich für ihn eine Baby-Vertretung mache. Ich habe zugesagt — und dann kamen die ersten Bilder draußen — und das erste Verstehen, was Blende, Zeit und Licht mit einem Foto anstellen. I admired photography from the outside for a long time. Until a friend — an event photographer himself — asked me to stand in for a baby shoot. I said yes. And then came the first pictures outdoors — and the first real feel for what aperture, shutter and light do to a photo.

Der Rest war Übung: viele Shootings, viele Aussortierungen — und mit jedem Abzug, der bleiben durfte, ein Stück mehr Gefühl dafür, was ein Bild trägt. The rest was practice: plenty of shoots, plenty of culling — and with every print that earned its place, a little more feel for what makes a picture stand up.
